SENIOR PRESENTATION EVENING

The annual presentation evening at Lydney Cricket Club took place on the 13th November 2009. Chairman John Matthews welcomed over 80 members, guests and friends of the club to the evening which was held in the newly refurbished long room.
After a superb buffet supplied by Diane Emery the presentations began with the chairman presenting the young player of the year to Jake Bonser who at 15 years of age is rapidly developing into a very useful cricketer. As well as captaining the Under 15 "A" team to the Leadon Vale League title he scored two 2nd X1 league fifties and perormed well when called into the 1st X1.
The next award was the "Black Hand" trophy for the clubman of the year which this year went to Davey Kear. Davey served as social secretary on the committee and organised two very successful social evenings as well as being available to play for whichever team he was selected for every week.
The 3rd X1 player of the year was presented by Andrew Davis (3rd X1 Captain) to Richard Saville, in his absence on duty, who scored 330 runs in his appearances last season including 130* to win a game against Twyning.
The 2nd X1 player of the year was presented to Charlie Bendall who made very useful all round contributions in every 2nd X1 game he played until he was called into the 1st X1. Captain Bob Park made the award and mentioned that Jake Bonser and Peter Tomley were very serious contenders for the award due to their individual performances throughout the season.
The next presentation was a special committee award made for outstanding performance in the first X1 during 2009. Peter Glynn took 27 league wickets at an average of 25 runs each in his debut season and this was felt worthy of recognition by the committee. Peter only just missed out on the 1st X1 player of the year by a very small margin.
He was denied the 1st X1 player of the year award by all rounder Ed Jones who had a superb season with both the bat and ball finishing second in both sets of averages and who is maturing into the 1st team captains role with every game.
With presentations over Robert Brain a life member of the club and one time 1st X1 captain shared some memories of his playing days whilst responding on behalf of the guests.
